Added too much sugar to your \u200ecake batter? Your casserole overpoweringly fatty? Soup too sour? The \u200esauce just plain bitter? Your salad smoking hot, ever so spicy?\u200e<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><strong>What\u2019s to be done? Start again from Scratch?!!!\u200e<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>We may know how to solve a differential equation, how to protect ourselves \u200ein the case of chemical warfare but we are completely helpless when it \u200ecomes to the kitchen\u2026 Yup, our tactical capabilities in the kitchen are \u200evirtually nil\u2026\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I belong to a dying breed. In eighth grade we of the female gender were \u200etaught basic cooking and sewing skills (Don\u2019t worry \u2013 at that tender age I \u200ewas already breaking down barriers and had also forged my way into the \u200eboy\u2019s woodworking class\u2026). I cannot say that I came out of that semester \u200ewith any significant cooking skills. Neither at school, nor at home was I \u200egifted with culinary expertise \u2026 \u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Of late, I have completed a number of cooking and naked (raw) cooking \u200eclasses. I must say that I have collected any number of magic tricks along \u200ethe way. One of the most basic ones is the art of flavor balancing. Here lies \u200ea delightful secret which can correct and enrich a dish\u2019s taste.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Have you ever wondered why every cake recipe calls for a \u201cpinch of salt\u201d? \u200eWhat in heaven\u2019s name has salt got to do with cake???\u200e<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Flavor Balancing<\/h2>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">The mystery ends here. Add new flavor elements to your cooking to \u200esharpen, correct and add a sophisticated punch of deliciousness to your \u200ebrew.\u200e<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There are six groups of flavor essences: sweet, sour, fats, salty, spicy and \u200ebitter. The first four groups are the major flavor elements: sweet, sour, fats \u200eand salty. Most recipes will contain at least one element from each of these \u200efour groups. Pull down one of your cookbooks from your bookshelf. Choose \u200ea random recipe and try to identify ingredients representing each of these \u200efour elements.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">When one of these flavor essences is overpowering your dish, there is a \u200escience to follow by using one or more of the other essences to balance its \u200eflavor. Use sour, fatty, salty, spicy and\/or bitter elements to balance.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Too sour \u2013<\/strong> With the exception of spicy additions, balancing a dish which is \u200etoo sour can be done with any of the remaining four flavor elements: sweet, \u200esalty, fatty and\/or bitter.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Too salty \u2013<\/strong> With the exception of spicy and bitter additions, balancing a dish \u200ewhich is too salty can be done with any of the remaining three flavor \u200eelements: sweet, fatty, and\/or sour.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Too bitter &#8211;<\/strong> With the exception of spicy and fatty additions, balancing a dish \u200ewhich is too bitter can be done with any of the remaining three flavor \u200eelements: sweet, salty, and\/or sour.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Too fatty \u2013<\/strong> The only tool available in this situation is adding a sour flavor \u200eessence.\u200e<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">How To Adjust Flavor Profiles:\u200e<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adding sweetness<\/strong> \u2013 date honey, maple syrup, agave syrup, dried fruits<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adding sourness \u2013<\/strong> citrus fruit, vinegar, fermented foods<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adding saltiness \u2013<\/strong> sea salt, Himalayan salt, seaweed, tamari, miso<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adding spiciness \u2013<\/strong> hot pepper, ginger, garlic, onion, cilantro, horseradish, \u200emustard<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adding bitterness \u2013<\/strong> cumin, cinnamon\u200e, parsley, citrus peel, dark chocolate, \u200ecoffee, mangold<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Adding fattiness \u2013<\/strong> nuts, nut butters, coconut oil, tahini, avocado, olive oil<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Balancing Movement Sensations<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A delicate weave of these six flavors can deliver a powerful kick of joy and \u200ehappiness. Just as a successful combination of flavor essences can award \u200edivine pleasures to our taste buds so too can a well balanced mix of the five \u200emovement sensations. Infuse flexibility, agility, mobility, strength and \u200estability into your movement practice and you too can reap the rewards of \u200ebeing InJ\u2665Y!\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As a diet rich in salty flavors will compromise our health so will a workout \u200eregimen heavily focused on strength training repetitions create rigidity and \u200eimbalance.\u200e<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">A good workout regimen will reflect a wide spectrum of movement \u200esensations:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Flexibility<\/strong> is energy moving outwards, away from your body. It allows you to \u200egrow and feel the magnitude of your very being. Flexibility opens up a wealth \u200eof potential. Extend your reach towards the sky, Feel a world of possibilities \u200eawaiting you&#8230; \u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Strength<\/strong> is energy moving inwards, towards your body. Feel the power of \u200eyour arm as you make a deep muscle. Embrace your strength.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Mobility<\/strong> is energy in constant motion. Mobility is a multidirectional flow of \u200eenergy. Here resides the very essence of freedom and youthfulness.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Agility<\/strong> is a stop and start energy motion. Agility is a mischievous prankster, \u200efull of surprises and constantly changing. \u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Stability<\/strong> represents multi directional movement stemming from and returning \u200eto the body\u2019s energetic pathways. Stability is peace and unity, grounded to \u200esource and readiness for movement and change.\u200e<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Nia is a holistic movement practice which embraces each of these five \u200emovement sensations. It builds bodies from the inside out, different by far \u200efrom any other movement practice you have experienced.\u200e<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Daylight savings time a distant memory as winter approaches fast; my body \u200ecraves a hearty soup. Now would be an opportune time to tinker with the \u200eflavoring essences and balance a magnificent soup.\u200e<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hbne.co.il\/?p=474\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Allow yourself the liberty to experiment and play<\/a> both in the kitchen and on \u200ethe move. Anyone who limits her palate, and engages in monotonous \u200eactivity, ends up losing. As Michael Jordan was quoted in saying:<\/h3>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cJust play. \u200eHave fun.
