\n\u200e\u201cI did not get it all down. Wait, hold up!\u201d \u200e<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

More often than not, there were frequent \u200einterruptions during class. Although I began my academic studies in \u200eWashington, both of my degrees were completed in Israel. From the \u200ebeginning, I was astonished, and yes a bit perturbed<\/strong>, to discover a \u200etypical Israeli student behavior. \u200e<\/p>\n

Who Screwed Up?<\/h2>\n

For the most part, it appeared that the Israeli educational system did \u200elittle to prepare its students to take notes. In addition, I found writing \u200eskills to be lacking. Later, as our children went through the system, my \u200einitial assessments regarding the Israeli students were corroborated.\u200e<\/p>\n

Of particular interest is the incongruency between our extraordinary \u200eentrepreneur innovation and our ordinary writing proficiency. Imagine \u200ewhat a one up we could achieve if our writing skills were to match our \u200einnovation mastery\u2026\u200e<\/p>\n

Surely, now as our psychometric testing has begun to incorporate a \u200ewriting module, I am not the only Israeli to recognize this as an issue \u200eworthy of national debate. \u200e<\/p>\n

Multiple Monitors?<\/h2>\n

Since the discovery of the \u201cboob tube\u201d and every screen since, we \u200ehave been reading less and less. I am uncertain if part of the \u200eincompetence is not due to indigestion. It is not a challenging \u200eproblem, nothing that a little fiber and some good \u201creads\u201d won\u2019t \u200ecure\u2026\u200e<\/p>\n

Playing House<\/h2>\n

There are any number of issues that we enter the age of majority ill \u200eprepared to face. This is universal.<\/p>\n

Except for the fortunate few, for we \u200estep into a relationship, bear and raise children and play house: \u200eplaying house because, quite frankly, no one ever coached and taught \u200eus the ropes of the game.\u200e<\/h3>\n

Such are the subjects of health and nutrition, heck; even our doctors \u200eare under educated in the science of nutrition and lack the tools to \u200econnect the two with the gusto merited.\u200e<\/strong><\/p>\n

In The Headlines<\/h2>\n

The rampant growth of chronic disease has caused many a headline of \u200elate: \u200e<\/p>\n

For today, let\u2019s agree to put this debate aside. Instead of health and \u200enutrition, I want to target sports and nutrition. It is common \u200eknowledge that physical fitness and good health are closely \u200eintertwined. Many a couch potato<\/a> has found his way to the gym, \u200esome even making their way to triathlons and the like. \u200e<\/p>\n

Much as our teachers failed to instruct us on how to be good parents \u200eor good spouses, no one was around to coach us, we the ones who \u200ewere not chosen to be on the team, how to be good athletes or, \u200especifically, the connection between performance, diet and health.\u200e<\/p>\n

Growing pains<\/h2>\n

Other than some obvious ground rules like the importance of \u200ehydration, not overeating before activity and perhaps wearing a hat in \u200ethe sun, we blindly grope our way. Though not an athlete per se, I \u200ehave learned much from my growing pains and would love to share \u200esome invaluable knowledge I have gained on the trails.\u200e\u200f \u200f<\/p>\n

It appears that I have much to share. Instead of showering you with an \u200eextremely long post, I am going to just share the headlines now.\u200e
