In all honesty, I do not know how I would write this blog without the \u200egenerous help of my husband. Believe me when I say that it goes far \u200eand beyond his job title of Hebrew editor in chief\u2026\u200e<\/p>\n

Hail to the court jester of Banter and Chuckles!\u200e<\/h2>\n

His healthy sense of humor works overtime. Any time we go for a \u200ebackyard biking adventure is a happy time. It matters not if I am being \u200eserious, minding my own business or simply day dreaming, he will \u200ealways have the precise angle to bring a smile upon my lips\u2026\u200e<\/p>\n

Do you remember my new spokes<\/a>?\u200e<\/h2>\n

I could not have asked for a better bike. Even green, I could not have \u200echosen a better color to go to bat for! On second thought, however, \u200eperhaps I should ask for a refund. Today was not only my third time \u200eout but it was also the third time that I spilled out of the saddle! There \u200eis absolutely no escaping the self-flagellation:\u00a0they were such \u200eembarrassing slip ups. It would not be so bad if I could proudly toot \u200eabout the steep drop that I messed up on\u2026 I can only hope and pray \u200ethat nobody bore witness to this travesty. You did, did you?<\/p>\n

Just put a \u200esock in it!\u200e<\/h2>\n

Hubby loves to laugh at me: he says that I have a very low threshold \u200efor pain. Between you and me, who can compare my pain to \u200eanother\u2019s?\u200e<\/p>\n

It is interesting to note that current scientific research supports gender \u200edifferentiated thresholds to pain<\/a>. It appears that when compared to \u200emen, women have a lower threshold to pain.\u200e<\/p>\n

When we are injured and in pain, our body releases natural painkillers \u200ecalled endorphins or beta-natural opioids. Endorphins dim our senses \u200eand ease our pain. It turns out that the stronger sex's body is better \u200eapt at production of endorphins.\u200e<\/p>\n

Did you hear that honey?!<\/h3>\n

Finally there is a validation for my wails of \u200epain! ( Poppycock! \u2013 translation of Hebrew editor in chief\u2019s ill-\u200emannered comment\u00a0\ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n

My family has long since abandoned any hope of \u201csafely\u201d waking me \u200ein the middle of the night (Happily for me\u2026 it is a huge challenge for \u200eme to fall back to sleep!). My daughter describes it as a scene straight \u200eout of the Mel Brooks movie: Dracula: Dead and Loving It! I sit up in \u200ebed suddenly and howl: the dead coming to life\u2026 I have been known \u200e\u200e(the proof is on you\u2026) to utter similar sounds, sleeping injured or in \u200epain as I attempt to roll over in bed. Sure as hell, when I slide out of \u200ethe saddle, you and everyone else in your midst cannot help but hear \u200eme\u2026\u200e<\/p>\n

We all have our unique way of handling pain.\u200e<\/h2>\n

Stuff happens and will keep on happening: we fall, crash and injure \u200eourselves. It hurts. Sometimes the pain is fierce. When the damage is \u200evisible to the naked eye, our screams and our cries are met with \u200ecompassion and tenderness even if we have turned the volume way, \u200eway up.\u200e<\/p>\n

There are times when we sense something amiss in our bodies or \u200ewe\u2019ve received an abnormal lab test result. Normality amiss, we are \u200estruck down by paralyzing fears:\u00a0the sympathetic nervous system \u200ekicks into gear. At times our behavior has a life of its own as we lose \u200econtrol.\u200e<\/p>\n

On the one hand, we can run like a mouse in a maze, running \u200erepeatedly into walls on our way, forever at an impasse or, on the \u200eother hand, we can take deep relaxing breaths. As the stress \u200eintensifies, acknowledge the opponent you face. We can fight it or we \u200ecan feel it and allow the pain, the grief and the fear to just be. Relieve \u200eanxiety using meditation, nature and prayer as key allies. \u200e<\/p>\n

Embrace you body\u2019s wisdom.<\/h2>\n

Do not for a moment believe that one \u200eperson holds all of the answers even if she\u2019s a white coat\u2026 Let the last \u200eword be yours: you deciding what\u2019s best for your body.\u200e<\/p>\n

I have been growing a strange thread of pain which weaves between \u200emy shoulder, neck, ear and head. Presently, after three spills from my \u200ebike, I\u2019ve collected a vibrant assortment of bright purple, blue and \u200eyellow bruises. You can see them clearly on my arm, hand, inner thigh, \u200epalm, knee and, of course, on my butt! I made it home on a rush of \u200eadrenaline but the groaning and limping was not long in coming. I \u200easked hubby to help me undress as I was finding it challenging to raise \u200emy arms above my head.\u200e<\/p>\n

I am sure that you guess that my partner could not control himself. He \u200egraciously helped me remove all of my clothing but my socks. The \u200ecr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me was saved for last. He gingerly removed the first \u200eone but kept my naked foot in his clasp. The dirty play began as he \u200eplayed my toes, heel and arch with his magic. He, of course, was no \u200estranger to the powers that unfolded in his hands. The captain of my \u200esoles captures my soul. I can still hear his laughter ringing in my ears.\u200e\u00a0
